War memorial
Teufenbach-KatschAt the suggestion of senior teacher Sepp Genta, the Katsch war memorial was planned and executed by artist Fritz Silberbauer in 1923. On September 30, 1923, it was dedicated by Abbot Wilhelm Zöhrer (Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambrecht).
The war memorial has the following features:
- The fresco on the left depicts a war scene from the First World War in Galicia
- The fresco on the right depicts the Italian theater of war from the mountain war of 1915 - 1918, in which the soldiers defend their position from the trenches
- St. Sebastian, the patron saint of soldiers, is depicted in the tower on the left
- St. George, the patron saint of knights and men of war, is depicted in the tower on the right
- Both towers show all the fallen and missing from the world wars from the municipality of Katsch and Frojach
- In the middle tower there is another fresco depicting Jesus between two kneeling, praying angels
- The bell from the Saurau pilgrimage church hangs above it in the tower
The sight can be found in the district of Katsch on the right-hand side after entering the village.
The attraction is freely accessible all year round.
