Municipal office Unzmarkt-Frauenburg
Unzmarkt-FrauenburgThe Mur, a lifeline, meanders leisurely through the untouched floodplain landscape.
Unzmarkt-Frauenburg is a market town in the Mur valley with 1259 inhabitants. Around 1250, the Liechtensteins began to establish a craftsmen's settlement at the foot of the Hundsberg. 1260 Unzmarkt was founded and first mentioned in documents in 1324 ("Hunczmarkt").
In 1635 Unzmarkt was given a coat of arms: the eagle stands for power, the anchor refers to the once so active rafting and the rock to the castle. It was not until 1965 that Frauenburg was granted a municipal coat of arms.
Since 1220, Frauenburg Castle was owned by the minnesinger Ulrich von Liechtenstein. He also gave it the somewhat romantic-sounding name "Frauenburg". As a result, the castle had many owners; mostly it was inherited from father to son.
