Distillery Krauss
St. Martin im SulmtalFrom the start of the first distillation attempts in the garage at home to a distillery that produces high-quality spirits. Today, Distillery Krauss offers a promising range of high-quality whisky, rum, vermouth and fine brandies. However, special attention is paid to gin. Distillery Krauss has already received a large number of gold medals for this fine drop, among others. During a tasting across the range, you have the opportunity to learn a lot about the production of spirits.
Distillery Krauss - at that time Feindestillerie Krauss - was founded in 2007 by the married couple Carmen and Werner Krauss. The two got to know each other during their studies - both are DI Dr. in technical chemistry. Their love for distilling was born during a 2-day distilling course and shortly afterwards the garage in Werner's parents' house was promptly converted. After the two of them had been very successful with their brandies for several years and had also received many awards and prizes for their products, something new was needed in 2014. Carmen and Werner did some research and found out that gin was on the rise. So they asked themselves whether they could also deliver the usual quality in this area. No sooner said than done. The first gin was submitted to an international tasting in San Francisco and surprisingly won one of 10 double gold medals (out of a total of 121 gins submitted). Word spread quickly, too. In the meantime, the distillery has 7 of its own gins in its range (but also develops its own creations with interested restaurateurs, chefs, celebrities, etc.). These are not marketed under the "Distillery Krauss" brand) and is generally known for its diversity and consistent quality. In addition to the gins, there is also whisky, rum, vodka and still some fine spirits. The premises have also changed. In December 2018, the entire team - which now consists of the two founders and 5 female employees - moved from the garage to a brand new distillery. This new company building paves the way for internationalisation. So far, the products are available in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
