HWW-Hiking route: Aspang - Mönichkirchen - Glashütte - Festenburg
This HWW hiking route is part of the Wechselland Historical Long-Distance Hiking Trail (HWW), which tells the story of Wechselland along more than 100 HWW stations. More information can be found at www.wechsel-wandern.at.
This HWW hiking route runs from Aspang via Mönichkirchen and Alter Glashütte and Vorauer Schwaig to Festenburg. Glass was produced in the area belonging to the cadastral municipality of Schaueregg for more than 150 years. At the Alte Glashütte HWW station, you can find out the background to one of the largest glassworks in Wechselland. Remains of the former buildings can still be seen in some places near the station.

Arrival by car
- Follow the highway A2.
- Exit Edlitz-Aspang: Take exit 77 Edlitz-Aspang.
- B55 towards Aspang: After the exit, turn left onto the B55 Wechsel Straße towards Aspang.
- Through Zöbern: Drive through the village of Zöbern and follow the signs towards Aspang-Markt.
- Enter Aspang-Markt: After about 10 km you will reach Aspang-Markt.
The tour is not signposted throughout. Route guidance with app recommended.
- This HWW hiking route runs from Aspang.
- Via Mönichkirchen to the old glassworks.
- Continue along the path to Vorauer Schwaig and on to Festenburg.
We recommend a stop at the Vorauer Schwaig with its breathtaking views or a visit to Festenburg Castle.
