We start our hike in Grünau, at the parking lot on the B71. From here, the trail leads us in the direction of the Marienwasserfall, but we do not turn left to the waterfall, but follow the forest path to the right. It goes steeply uphill to a forest road that leads through the Seewirtgraben (hiking trail no. 293). Now we follow the forest road to the Jagermichl hunting lodge.
There we follow the signpost and soon arrive at an overgrown forest road along the stream until it goes up through the forest. At first still moderately steep, the ascent becomes more and more difficult. Before we come out in front of the Mittleren Zeller Hut at a hunting lodge, we still have a strenuous, serpentine climb to master.
We continue in a westerly direction up a steep meadow ridge to the Mittlerer Zeller Hut (1,586 m). A small descent now follows, where we can already see the Großer Zeller Hut in front of us. The last steep ascent leads us through a mountain pine field finally to the Großer Zeller Hut.
From the summit we have a fantastic view of Dürrenstein, Ötscher, Gemeindealpe, Mariazell, Veitsch, Hochschwab massif ...
We take the same way back. If we still have time, we can make a detour to the impressive Marienwasserfall on the way back.
