1993 From20-27 March 1993, the Special Olympics International took place in Schladming and Salzburg. It was the 5th World Winter Games of the Special Olympics, attended by 1,600 athletes from 50 nations across all continents.
1982 Schladming is an Alpine World Ski Championships location for the first time.
1978 Thermal springs are found in Loipersdorf and Bad Radkersburg, and modern thermal tourism begins in Styria. Bad Gleichenberg had already been popular with the nobility since 1834.

1854 The Semmering railway by Carl Ritter von Ghega, as the first standard gauge mountain railway in the world and a milestone in the history of the railway, connects the Vienna with the Mediterranean - through Styria - since 1854.
1811 The first Museum of in Austria, the Joanneum in Graz, is founded by Archduke John.
