Moar-in-Pichl hut in the Gleinalpen area

A leisurely half-day hike in the Murtal adventure region through wooded areas with the destination of a soothing alpine pasture.
On this wooded hike in the Murtal adventure region, you are on a forest road throughout, which leads directly to the destination. A leisurely, steady ascent is good for body and soul alike. You can hike along, find a regular walking pace and before you know it, you have reached the beautiful alpine pastures with the huts. It is a special place at about 1500 m above sea level, because the softly shaped, snow-covered saddle landscape inevitably radiates peace and security. In addition, on warm winter days a sun-exposed hut wall can turn out to be a real heat trap, which then invites you to take a longer break.  This tour is recommended if there is a lot of snow at higher altitudes and you would like to be more solitary and "avalanche-proof".

By car to snowshoeing - a few things to watch out for!

  • Good winter tires are an absolute MUST!
  • Ice scraper, snow broom, de-icer for the door locks and a small shovel are part of the basic equipment.
  • Put snow chains and a tow rope in the car, even if you are not good with them yourself. Helping and knowledgeable hikers are always available on the mountain!
  • Clear the car completely of snow and ice, especially sweep off the roof of the car completely.
  • When parking, make sure you leave room for other motorists.
  • Always park so that the rest of the roadway remains clear for cars, logging trucks, and snow removal vehicles.
  • Find out about the snow situation on the access road or parking facilities before setting off. (hut host, webcams)
We start at the waypoint or crossing point Stanglhütte (1), 1026 m, and orient ourselves by the silver signs with the inscription "Moar in Pichl Hütte 1 ½ h".  The main trail leads along the valley floor or next to the stream. We pass by two huts, the second being the Eberhardhütte. After the Eberhard hut, the forest road soon makes a sharp left turn (2), 1300 m, which we follow. Up to here it is about 3 km and now we leave the ditch and hike up the forest covered slope. We stay on the main path, which always leads steadily uphill and in the further course makes a, clearly recognizable, S-curve. Since there are no markings or signposts, we stay on the main path, even if several forest paths branch off from it. When we reach the open alpine pastures, we see the buildings of the Moar-in-Pichl hut (3), 1507 m, on the right. The view from the alpine pasture ranges from the Seckauer to the Seetaler Alps and the peaks of the Stubalpe. The way back is via the ascent route.
If you want to extend the tour significantly, you can continue along the hiking trail to Wildeggkogel (1792 m).
There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour.
