Buchauer Straße B 117 from direction Admont or St. Gallen to Pölzgraben
We start our day tour in the Pölzau, a small settlement outside the town of St. Gallen. First we hike along the forest road (path no. 637) until we reach a barrier. Then we follow an old alpine pasture path until near a pond the marked path branches off to the right. Over a steeper forest step we reach the saddle with the Seisenalm. Now we walk up through a mountain forest and reach the summit of the Großer Maiereck at 1,764 m above sea level via the Kälberleiten. We enjoy the snack we brought with us and a wonderful panoramic view and continue on to the Kleiner Maiereck at 1,594 m above sea level down to the Sauboden, where we meet a forest road. But we take the path over the Spitzenberger Alm until we reach a fork in the path. Here we continue on trail no. 637 through the romantic Spitzenbachklamm, which is known for its rich butterfly population. We follow the road until we reach the junction Bergerviertel/St. Gallen on the right. Over a ridge we reach the beautiful old market place of St. Gallen. Inns and a pastry shop invite us to have a bite to eat before we start the last short and flat part of our circular walk. To do so, we walk through the village in a southerly direction and follow the path to the St. Gallen Water Park at the Erbsattel turn-off. Parallel to the main road we reach our starting point in the Pölzau on a shady and traffic-polluted path.
