Path of water (Wasserweg)

Along the waterway you can experience the beauty of nature of flowing waters, standing waters, but especially the mineral water springs in Bad Radkersburg and its surroundings.
With around 3000 hectares, the Mur floodplains form the second largest closed floodplain area in Austria and have been designated by UNESCO as the Lower Mur Valley Biosphere Park. We owe the formation of these floodplain forests to the Mur River, which moves back and forth in the floodplain.

Bad Radkersburg is a member of the "European Green Belt". This is a unique biotope network along the former "iron curtain", which stretches from the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea and divides here towards the Adriatic and the Balkans.

The waterway also passes two widenings of the Mura River, which were implemented to prevent further deepening of the bed and thus to protect the groundwater and improve the ecological condition. The widenings create new habitats for typical animal and plant species in and around the water.

In the area of the former border bridge to Slovenia you can experience and marvel at breathtaking sunsets at the newly created "Mura Square". Embedded in these impressive natural landscapes is the "Bad Radkersburg gold" - the mineral and thermal springs of Bad Radkersburg.

These springs, formed by the former volcanic activity, are characterized by a high mineralization and shape the health destination Bad Radkersburg. The water trail starts at the thermal spring and continues to the Bad Radkersburg city spring, which is bottled as healing and mineral water "Long Life". Furthermore you walk to the Josefsquelle in Sicheldorf (Sicheldorfer mineral water) and to the Johannesquelle in Laafeld, which is used as a natural drinking fountain.

From many locations along the waterway you can observe the landscape forms typical of extinct volcanoes.
