Schilcherberg run

Through mountain and valley is the motto of the Schilcherberg Run. A challenging running route for experienced runners. Discover the vineyards of the Schilcherland.
Many metres of altitude are covered on this route. But it pays off to explore the Schilcherberg on foot. The view in Greisdorf / Langegg rewards the steep climb. Numerous refreshment stops invite you to take a break. Buschenschank Achatz, Buschenschank Langmann, Buschenschank Lazarus, Weingut Friedrich and many more are located directly on the route. The last part of the run features a natural environment next to the Lemsitzbach stream. Here you can recover from the ascent beforehand and enjoy the pleasant cool climate of the forest and stream. At the end, a short climb leads to the starting point, Stainz Castle

From the north: Motorway Munich - Salzburg - Eben - Schladming - Liezen onto the A9 towards Graz. Exit at Lieboch and follow the B76 towards Deutschlandsberg. In Stainz leave the B76 and follow the direction of Schloss Stainz.

A9 is subject to toll - Gleinalmtunnel. Alternative: at St. Michael take the S6 towards Bruck and in Bruck take the S35 towards Graz.

From the west: In Villach take the A2 towards Klagenfurt. Take the Steinberg exit and follow the signs for Stainz - Schloss Stainz.

From the east: A2: Vienna - Aspang - Hartberg - Fürstenfeld - Graz. From Graz continue on the A2 in the direction of Klagenfurt and take the Lieboch exit in the direction of Stainz/Deutschlandsberg/Eibiswald. Follow the B76 to Stainz - direction Schloss Stainz.

From the south: A1 from Marburg to Leibnitz. Exit in Leibnitz (Gralla) and continue on the B74 in the direction of Deutschlandsberg (Heimschuh - Gleinstätten - St.Martin - Deutschlandsberg). Pass the LKH Deutschlandsberg, at each of the four roundabouts take the second exit in the direction of Stainz-Graz. Follow the B 76 in the direction of Stainz. Directly in Stainz, take the third exit at the JET roundabout and drive in the direction of Schloss Stainz.

The start is directly at Stainz Castle. Here you go down the stairs via the Schlossplatz in the direction of Schulmessweg. A short run down the stairs is perfect for warming up. Now run along Sauerbrunnstraße until you reach the bus park on your left. Cross the bus park and continue along Sägeweg. A small bridge leads you over the rushing Stainzbach stream. Follow the Sägeweg until you reach Neurath. You can now see the Schlossblick alpacas on your left.

Now walk along Neurathstraße and keep left for the time being. You will come to Höllerhanslweg and see the Joahnnesbrunnen fountain on your left. This is an inviting place to cool off or rest for a while. At the next two crossroads, keep to the right and continue along the Angenofenweg until you reach Wald in der Weststeiermark.

At this junction, turn left and walk along the road to Marhof. After 1.6 km, turn right at the crossroads. Past the primary schools, turn right again at the chapel on the right and follow Mitterweg for a short distance until you take the first road to the left. A hiking trail then leads you through the forest to Kornkneul. The fresh forest air provides a pleasant cooling. This path now takes you directly to Lestein and on to Langegg. Here you will pass numerous Buschenschänke, which also invite you to take a break. Follow the Lesteiner Straße back downhill to Lemsitz. As soon as you have passed through Lemsitz, turn left at the end onto Sommerebenstraße and after 200 m turn right. This forest path takes you along the rushing Lemsitzbach stream directly to the starting point, Stainz Castle.

After this physical exertion, however, you deserve some refreshment. Stroll through the centre of the village and enjoy the beautiful restaurants where athletes are always welcome.

Johannesbrunnen: Take a look to the left in Neurath. Here you can discover the Johannesbrunnen fountain and also cool off if necessary.
