From the Tonnerhütte via the Lavantsee to St. Martin am Silberberg

Over the summit of the Zirbitzkogel, the scenic path leads to the Lavantsee and over several huts to Carinthia. In the idyllic village of St. Martin am Silbergberg we have reached our destination.
This is a strenuous  but scenic tour. However, it is requested sufficient condition and endurance.

More information

Coming from Judenburg via Unzmarkt to Scheifling. Continue straight on until you reach Neumarkt. Keep left and drive via Mühlen to the Tonnerhütte.

Coming from Tamsweg drive via Ranten (or Stadl an der Mur) to Murau. Turn right and drive via Laßnitz, St. Lambrecht and Mariahof to Neumarkt. Keep left here and drive via Mühlen to the Tonnerhütte.

From the Tonnerhütte parking lot, follow the slightly ascending forest road to the 1st hairpin bend. Immediately from the hairpin bend, the footpath branches off the right and turns towards the right edge of the ski slope. Moderately ascending, past the top station of the lift, the path leads to the Hohe Hald. From the increasingly sparse tree line, the path now leads slithly uphill over treeless terrain in the direction of the Zirbitzkogel, before turning east (ahlf-right) and heading towards the Murtalblick at the Lavantseehöhe 2.250m.

From the ridge to the N (left), marker 312, to the summit of the Zirbitzkogel. From the Zirbitzkogel shelter follow the trail 320 to the E. Then follow the trail 45 to the SE and descend over steep terrain to the Lavantsee lake.

Follow the mark 45 to the Köhler hut. After a short stretch downhill in the SE direction, you reach the still very young Lavant River. Follow the Judenburger pilgrams' path, which winds through the pine forest. Passing a wooden cross and a spring, we reach the turnoff to Wildsee.

After about 0,5 km trough a beautiful pine forest you reach the access path to the Rohrer Hütte which we leave after 100m to the right (NW). The path leads directly to the Rohrer Hütte. Follow the slightly sloping access path to the S until you reach the 1st hairpin bend. Then take the flat road in the directioin of the Stoanahütte. From the idyllically situated Stoanhütte, the paths leads slightly uphill over the "Streitwiesen" to the Judenburger Kreuz. On the south side of the Zanitzhöhe, 1.841m the path leads to the St. Martinerhütte.

Follow the forest road in a southwesterly direction to the junctioni of the footpath to St. Martin am Silberberg. On the Kärntner Grenzway you walk through high forest to the JG Gnos. Glo slightly downhill on the access road until it meets a gravel road. Follow the gravel road to the Wieland inn or to St. Martin am Silberberg.
